I was born and raised in Detroit, spent high school in Washington DC and have been living in Brooklyn since 1997. I'm currently finishing my masters at the NYU ITP program (2008).
I have worked with a range of people on many different projects, from Super rock legend David Byrne and industry artists the Starn Twins, to building prototypes for commercial companies and working with Super biologists / conservationist Leela Hazzah.
I have also done numerous drywall and Metal fabrication jobs.
This work history gives me the ability to bring together and complete projects with a variety of components ( anything from electronics/programing to metalworking, see bio for skills listing) and parts. I am open to any project or idea.
I enjoy building things and ideas. Below are the threads of thought I have been following in my own work.
I am focusing on making devices and objects that can function independently of myself, continually reproducing by the dissemination of their ideas and structures. With this reproduction I’m looking to shape my world in a way that I feel more comfortable living in it. I try to develop technology and ideas which: clarify and strengthen the individual’s influence in networks and systems, create a sustainability of function and impose a transparency of structure and purpose. I also look at the modes and functions I can perceive as a person and how those possibilities become my personality. I then extrapolate social structures and investigations from there.
These are the specific problems/ideas I am trying to address with my latest work/projects:
Designing devices and actions that can be sustained by their surroundings, without the need of a larger structured network.
e.g. Focusing on power derived from the environment (solar power, mechanical vibration etc.) and creating networks where a node can function without a constant link to a system.
Looking at how social/psychological interpretation defines the interaction and mechanics of technologies and their people.
e.g. The interpretation of the parts in a system or thing, define our use of that system or thing. If a rock is seen only as a rock it will never hammer anything.
Building methods to create a transparency of action and structure, allowing for a more accurate participation in a system. This in turn would make systems respond in real time, removing the bottlenecks of systemic participation.
e.g. The questionnaire on your level of consumer confidence would also become the article about consumer confidence.
How to build new networks and technologies based on the abilities of our cognitive/social processes.
e.g. Using the way we inherently interact to facilitate a quicker learning curve and increased functionality.
I have the skills or can get a team together that can fabricate/design:
Large architectural structures.
Metal or wood structures/components.
Control systems from pneumatics to motors.
Interactive design involving:
Computer vision tracking.
Cell phone/ mobile devices.
Interactive web design.
Electronics / microcontrollers.
Display kiosks.
Embedded wireless devices.
or any combination you can think of.
